FORMUS LOOKS AT LAST-MILE LMDS SERVICE

DENVER-Under the direction of its new chief executive-Osmo Hautanen, formerly of Philips Consumer Communications and Nokia Corp.-start-up firm Formus Communications Inc. has made steady progress in its mission in the broadband wireless access arena.

Founded in 1996, Formus’ aim is to acquire broadband wireless access spectrum to deliver voice, data, video and Internet access services. In the United States, Formus participated in the Local Multipoint Distribution Services auction through an investment in WNP Communications Inc.

However, the company said it recognizes an even larger opportunity to provide such services in underserved international markets. The company has licenses and authority to operate broadband wireless access networks in Poland, New Zealand and Ecuador.

The company also recently made an investment in ARCIS Media
