NEW YORK-Orange Communications SA said it awarded a contract, valued at $460 million, to a partnership of Nokia Corp. and Ascom AG to deliver a Global System for Mobile Communications 1800 cellular network in Switzerland.
In May, the Swiss Federal Communications Commission awarded Orange a license to build and operate a nationwide GSM 1800 network.
With this contract, the number of carriers to which Nokia supplies GSM 1800 and 900 technologies increases to 72 in 36 countries.
Ascom is a Switzerland-based telecommunications services and automation company with 12,000 employees worldwide.
