ERICSSON TO BUILD INDIAN NETWORK

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson was selected by Srinivas Cellcom Ltd., a Global System for Mobile communications operator in India, to build the largest mobile network ever to be rolled out in India, Ericsson said. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

The new GSM network is expected to provide coverage to more than 250 cities in the Tamil Nadu state, and to support 500,000 subscribers when completed. Srinivas Cellcom, a new customer for Ericsson, plans to launch commercial services in November.

Ericsson has supplied 19 out of the 41 mobile networks in India and supplies network infrastructure to 10 GSM operators there today. Ericsson’s local company in India, Ericsson Communications Pvt Ltd., employs more than 700 people at 15 offices across the country. Other Ericsson facilities in India include a software design center in Bangalore and a manufacturing plant for AXE switching in Jaipur.
