Motorola Inc. said the Universal Wireless Communications Consortium elevated its Cellular Subscriber Sector from general member to board member of the organization. UWCC represents 106 telecommunications carriers and vendors to promote the use Time Division Multiple Access technology and UWC-136 digital air-interfaces complemented by Interim Standard-41 wireless in-building network platform.

Cell-Loc Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding with Intelligent Databases International Ltd. to jointly develop an Internet-based position collection and distribution system for Cell-Loc’s wireless location product, the Cellocate System. The Cellocate-PCDS System, incorporating IDI’s Java Internet technology, will serve several vertical niche markets, such as the fleet management industry and the personal-safety and security sector, including providing enhanced 911 services, said Cell-Loc.

Cellular One of Washington D.C./Baltimore introduced nine new Digital Edge calling plans, ranging from an entry-level plan with 10 minutes of airtime for about $19 to a plan offering 1,500 minutes for $175. All Digital Edge plans include detailed billing, caller ID and a fraud prevention system, and most plans include a package of features like voice mail, message waiting, call waiting, call forwarding, three-party conferencing and no-answer transfer, the company said.

Cue Information Services launched its Advanced Messaging and Call Processing platform-nicknamed “sis”-to provide unified messaging through a toll-free number functioning as a clearinghouse for a subscriber’s home, office and mobile phone, pager, fax and e-mail messages. Sis is based on the open architecture of a Windows NT environment using database software. Telephone access to e-mail is provided through its own Internet domain server using optical character recognition technology and text-to-speech software, said Cue.

International Billing Services announced a 7-year statement processing contract with H.O. Software. According to the contract, IBS will produce all H.O. Software’s monthly statements. H.O. Software now can offer its customers one-to-one marketing capabilities with the monthly statement, and it also will benefit from IBS’ Direct Access program, with computerized statement tracking and CD-ROM statement archiving, said IBS.
