Home automation market to take off

Home automation applications powered by broadband and wireless service providers have the potential for broad market appeal, according to research from ABI.
The firm said home automation, both through standardized technologies or through broadband and wireless service providers could grow more than 50-fold between 2007 and 2013.
Home automation systems typically have been limited to either custom-designed high-end systems that cover entire homes or do-it-yourself systems, said ABI. But now they are becoming more mainstream.
“Home automation systems are becoming more mainstream and managed services are growing,” said Sam Lucero, senior analyst at ABI. “ABI Research believes that they will appeal to a much wider public. Our forecasts indicate that the overall market will grow from a modest 237,000 systems shipped in 2007, to more than 4 million systems in 2013.”
