OTTAWA, Canada-Mobile satellite services provider TMI Communications Co. L.P. announced its first major U.S. customers-Skysite Communications Corp. and Cue Network Corp.
TMI’s MSAT geostationary satellite provides wireless digital data, voice, fax, paging, e-mail, file transfer, Internet access and position reporting services. It now is able to extend operations into the United States, as well as Mexico, following a recent World Trade Organization agreement allowing mobile satellite service providers to offer services in other countries, as long as the country’s appropriate regulatory agency gives permission.
Ottawa-based TMI has reached a capacity agreement with Irvine, Calif.-based Cue Network, a paging provider specializing in the transportation sector, for alphanumeric paging services. The agreement with North Hollywood, Calif.-based Skysite, a subsidiary of U.S. Digital Communications Inc., is for the full range of MSAT applications, TMI said.
TMI was formed in 1988 and launched service in 1996. With the recent World Trade Organization ratification that allows MSS providers to offer service in other countries, the company now can provide service to all 50 states in North America, as well as Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and to locations up to 250 miles offshore.
TMI markets its satellite service to the oil and gas, transportation, maritime, mining, forestry, utility, construction and leisure industries, as well as various government and law enforcement agencies. TMI is owned by BCE Inc.
