VIENNA, Va.-Teligent announced plans to launch facilities-based service over its digital wireless networks this year in Chicago; Denver; Los Angeles; Washington, D.C.; Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin, Texas; and Orlando and Tampa, Fla.
The ten markets account for more than one-fourth of the 130 million people and 27 million business lines covered by Teligent’s licensed territory, Teligent said.
“We have made tremendous progress in the last six months,” said Teligent Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alex J. Mandl. “We’ve secured financing, met regulatory goals, and continued construction of our local communications networks.”
Teligent’s offering includes local exchange, long-distance and high-speed data transmission. Teligent’s system, using advanced digital wireless technology, uses a small antenna on top of the customer’s building to send digital voice, data and video signals to a base station, where the signals are routed to a switch. The switch sends the signals to the local telephone network, a long-distance network or the Internet.
Teligent currently offers Internet access in 31 markets.
