SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. announced it has completed a six-month field trial with Vodafone Ltd. demonstrating the compatibility of a Code Division Multiple Access base station in an existing Global System for Mobile communications network.
The trial proved the technical feasibility through integrating an unmodified GSM switch at the GSM-standard A-interface, said Qualcomm. Qualcomm and Vodafone are planning to hold a series of “Open Days” next month in Newbury, United Kingdom, where a final report on the trial results and business and economic information related to the hybrid GSM-CDMA technology will be made available.
