CTIA WIRELESS 98 TO ACCOMMODATE INTERNATIONAL FIRMS

WASHINGTON, D.C.-The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association said it is taking steps this year to accommodate international participants at the Wireless 98 convention and exposition Feb. 23-25 in Atlanta.

Last year about 10 percent of the 21,000 attendees were international, said CTIA spokesman Jeff Nelson-and this year the association is expecting even more.

For the first time, CTIA has created a multi-lingual Wireless 98 attendance brochure that is translated into Spanish, Portuguese, French, Japanese and Korean languages. Morning sessions will be simultaneously interpreted into major languages on headsets and important signs at the conference will be multi-lingual. The Wireless 98 show directory will include a section for international buyers that offers exhibitors information about exporting and will note the languages spoken by personnel in booths.

There will be an international registration area as well as an international business center with a lounge, equipment and assistance for international convention guests. Staff at the business center will be available to assist participants with CTIA’s Wireless Global Matching Program, a computer system to help international buyers and U.S. exhibitors interested in exporting locate one another.

Former British Prime Minister John Major will address participants on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 9 a.m., the last day of the show.
