HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Telecommunications Inc. and New World PCS Ltd. Hong Kong SAR signed a contract calling for Nokia to expand New World’s Global System for Mobile communications 1800 network.
The deal is valued at more than $50 million. Nokia will commence deliveries immediately. The network will be operational early this year. With this contract, Nokia remains the sole supplier to the New World PCS network. The deal includes Nokia’s mobile intelligent network solution, as well as the Nokia Artus NetGate, said Nokia. The Nokia mobile IN solution will provide New World’s customers with access to new services, while the Nokia Artus NetGate will provide Internet access to mobile phone customers in the New World PCS network.
In addition, Nokia will supply a range of equipment including mobile switching centers, base station controllers, base transceiver stations and an upgrade to the NMS network management system.
