MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. announced that paging customers using WolfeTech Corp.’s PocketGenie Internet access software will be able to receive driving directions on their pagers from its Maps On Us service.
Users of two-way messaging devices will be able to receive directions directly from the online mapping, routing and Yellow Pages service through the PocketGenie software, the company said.
Maps On Us features include turn-by-turn directions with multiple intermediate route locations, interactive mapping functions, user preferences and a “hot list” of favorite places to visit, the ability to set home or work start and end markers, map saving and text-to-speech synthesis for spoken directions.
“Maps On Us has redefined the way people plan routes and receive local information on the Web,” said Surya Jayaweera, WolfeTech’s president.
WolfeTech said it plans to launch a national beta test of its software in January.
Motorola Inc., RAM Mobile Data USA L.P.and Ardis currently are testing the software on their networks. The software is designed for advanced messaging products, such as Motorola’s PageWriter 2000, Research in Motion’s Inter@ctive Pager and Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Inc.’s two-way network.
