CALGARY-The People’s Republic of China President Jiang Zemin visited Northern Telecom Ltd.’s Westwinds facility in Calgary during his visit to Canada for the recent APEC meetings.
Coinciding with Jiang’s visit, Nortel met with several of its Chinese customers and signed nine contracts valued at about $95 million.
Nortel signed contracts with China United Telecommunications Corp., Beijing Telecommunications Administration, Henan Post and Telecommunications Authority, Chongqing Telecommunications Administration, Yunnan PTA, Jiangxi PTA, Hebei PTA and Guangdong PTA.
Nortel established its Nortel China business unit after signing a memorandum of understanding with China’s State Planning Commission in June 1993 to oversee business operations including research and development, manufacturing, sales and service in China, Hong Kong S.A.R. and Taiwan.
