EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.-Metromedia International Group Inc., through its wholly owned subsidiary, Metromedia International Telecommunications Inc., announced that Instaphone, the company’s joint venture in Kazakhstan, received an operating license to provide local, long-distance and international calling, leased line and data services for 10 years using wireless local loop technology.
Instaphone also received a 2.3-2.5 GHz license for the Almaty region to provide WLL services.
Kazakhstan supports 17.4 million people with a current teledensity of 14 percent.
Current rural teledensity is 7 percent and urban teledensity is 18 percent, said Metromedia.
Installation of the first lines is expected to begin before the end of the year, according to Metrophone. Metrophone has other operations in Eastern Europe.
