Three men accused of illegally intercepting alphanumeric paging messages of New York City Police and Fire Departments each pled guilty to misdemeanor charges of message interception and of manufacturing and possessing cloned pagers.
Defendants Robert Gessmann, his brother, Steven Gessmann, and Vinnie Martin are executives of Breaking News Network, a Fort Lee, N.J.-based company that monitors police and fire department communications to tip off various news media subscribers of their location and activities. They were arrested Aug. 27 for possessing cloned pagers used to read messages sent between police and fire department and mayor’s office. Sentencing is set for March 3.
