ATLANTA-BellSouth Corp. and SCC Communications Corp. formed a strategic alliance to enhance BellSouth’s 911 safety system. BellSouth said it is improving the capabilities of its 911 system in order to eliminate unnecessary delays for callers getting emergency assistance.
“With our 911 enhancements, public-safety answering agencies will receive a 10-digit call-back number for wireless emergency calls and be able to identify the area from which wireless 911 calls originate,” said Rod Odom, president of BellSouth Business Systems.
The updated system, which is scheduled to be in place by April 1, is compatible with existing equipment installed at public-safety agencies, said SCC.
