NEW YORK-Millicom International Cellular S.A. announced it has launched a high capacity fixed cellular network in Bolivia
During the next three years, the network could ultimately serve more than 100,000 subscribers in La Paz, Bolivia’s administrative capital and primary business center in El Alto. Bolivia’s population of 8 million has access to about 300,000 phone lines, less than four phones per 100 people.
“The launch of a fixed cellular network in Bolivia will enable MIC to rapidly meet currently unfulfilled demand for local telephone services and provide customers with immediate access to the most advanced telecommunication features and services currently available such as fax and data transmission, conference calling, call waiting and ISDN services. We intend to explore the introduction of similar services in the other geographic markets that MIC serves,” said Jay Metcalfe, MIC’s president and chief executive officer.
