WARSAW, Poland-PKT Centertel, which recently won a license to operate a national Global System for Mobile communications 1800 network in Poland, has selected Northern Telecom Ltd. to provide complete radio infrastructure for its new network, under the terms of an estimated $33 million supply and services agreement.
Nortel will supply and install radio equipment covering the south of Poland, a region of dense population. Initial deployment of the network will provide services to the area’s major cities.
“Eastern European countries represent a major potential in terms of mobile communication. We are willing to support our customers in their strategy of continuous penetration into this market, backed by the performance of our products and our reliability in terms of fast network rollout and customer support,” said Pascal Debon, group vice president and general manager for GSM Wireless Networks and Nortel.
