SAN JOSE, Calif.-Nokia Telecommunications selected Cisco Systems Inc.’s Cisco AS5200 universal access server, which routes digital cellular phone calls directly to data networks and the Internet.
Nokia’s decision was based in part on Cisco’s addition of support of the V.110 rate adaption protocol, which enables Global System for Mobile communications mobile users to access corporate intranets and the Internet. GSM data services use the V.110 rate adaption protocol to connect mobile users to the GSM circuit through Integrated Services Digital Network systems.
Nokia will incorporate Cisco’s product in its Artus Access Router product, which is part of the company’s Artus family of products designed to enable network administrators to provide a managed Internet access point as well as Internet access from any GSM phone.
