NEW HAVEN, Conn.-SNET has announced plans to launch Time Division Multiple Access digital service in Connecticut by the end of the year.
“With digital service, our customers will have all the advantages that this technology offers-superior call quality and enhanced features-wherever digital service is available, combined with the nation’s current broad cellular coverage where digital technology is not yet available,” said Ron Serrano, president of SNET’s Communication, Information and Entertainment Group.
SNET’s digital service, initially to be offered in Connecticut’s more densely populated areas, will be available as an option in addition to SNET’s present cellular service. Customers requesting SNET’s digital service will be able to purchase new dual-mode phones designed for digital technology, where available.
Serrano said SNET’s digital service will provide better call clarity, call privacy, security, extended battery life for digital phones and the capability to use such features as caller ID, text messaging, paging and e-mail.
SNET said the new phones will feature a larger display area with better resolution than phones presently on the market and will be capable of displaying four or five lines of text with a scrolling feature to enable users to send and receive alpha-numeric paging messages or short e-mail messages.
