A leading provider of location-awareness services geared toward business customers has joined an alliance started by Research in Motion Ltd.
Apisphere Inc. announced today it joined the BlackBerry Independent Software Vendor Alliance Program. With resources and tools available through the alliance, Apisphere is aiming to build location-awareness applications for BlackBerry smartphone users.
“With the growing demand for mobile and wireless technologies and the increase in BlackBerry adoption, businesses are embracing customized and innovative BlackBerry applications that address their particular business needs,” Craig Harper, Apisphere CEO, said in a press statement.
The company is looking to further develop its Geo Enabled Mobility platform, which provides mobile geo-location information to any mobile device regardless of the service provider.
The alliance program helps independent software vendors, system integrators and solution providers create innovative solutions for the BlackBerry platform. Members have access to business, marketing and technical resources, as well as other members.
The news comes as RIM continues to grow in the enterprise and consumer space. Indeed, the company currently commands two slots on the list of the top five most popular cellphones sold in the United States.
