XIAN, China-Northern Telecom Inc. won a contract to expand Shaanxi Provincial Telecommunications Administration’s Global System for Mobile communications cellular network. Nortel values the agreement at $22 million.
Nortel supplied the existing Shaanxi GSM network in 1995. The company will add DMS-MSC digital switching equipment and more than 200 digital radio base stations by the end of the year. The expansion will increase network capacity to 200,000 users.
