CELLULAR EMPLOYEE BUSTED FOR FRAUD

BOSTON-A former Cellular One Boston employee pleaded guilty in federal court to a cellular phone cloning scam operated in 1995.

Edward S. Herd Jr., of Boston, pleaded guilty to a one-count felony charging him with possession and fraudulent intent of 15 or more stolen cellular telephone identification numbers, which he misappropriated from Cellular One, said the U.S. Attorney’s office.

At a hearing in U.S. District Court, Assistant U.S. Attorney Ben Clements stated that during March 1995, Herd, while employed by Cellular One, sold Thomas Davis 20 stolen identification numbers for $10 each. Davis used the numbers to clone non-activated cellular telephones as part of a cellular phone cloning business, which Davis was operating out of Mattapan and Dorchester, Mass.
