SAN FRANCISCO-Ortel Corp. has introduced a Code Division Multiple Access repeater, the first to meet the industry standard for CDMA, said the company.
Ortel also announced its MirrorCell Select 4-Channel and MirrorCell Max 2-Channel High Power Repeater for Global System for Mobile communications networks.
The CDMA repeater, the MirrorCell Select CDR1902, just recently met type approval from the Federal Communications Commission and has proven to work throughout temperature extremes experienced in the outdoor environment, said the company. It can provide coverage in numerous ways, including increasing a base station’s coverage area by strategically locating the repeaters around the base station, both during network deployment and later as network coverage is refined, said Ortel.
In addition, the repeater can be used to fill in holes caused by terrain or structure blockage, and also can be used to improve service within building structures.
The GSM repeater, said Ortel, is the first available repeater that meets two watts per channel with four watt channels, and four watts per channel with two channels.
This offers GSM operators twice the output power of comparable products available in the industry, said the company.
“GSM network operators require a quick and cost-effective RF coverage solution for wireless networks around the world,” said Dave McKay, Ortel’s vice president and general manager of wireless communications.
“Ortel’s 4-Channel and high power repeaters are strategic network elements for operators rolling out networks in regions such as Europe and Asia, significantly reducing capital and recurring costs incurred in the deployment and maintenance of their network.”
Ortel also has introduced its software monitoring program for its family of MirrorCell wireless repeaters.
The new software package, the MirrorCell Element Manager, allows operators to deploy numerous repeaters in a network, while monitoring the status of each repeater throughout the network.
The software also enables operators to monitor traffic through the network to identify “hot spots” that may need additional capacity, and control parameters such as repeater gain and frequency of operation.
MirrorCell is available in CDMA, personal communications services, Global System for Mobile communications and Digital Cellular System 1800 versions. The company said MirrorCell is being installed throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
