MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill.-Illinois Superconductor Corp. completed customer tests of its personal communications services receiver front-end. The company said the goal of the test was to demonstrate the product’s ability to extend PCS cell site range.
“The measurements obtained in initial testing at our customer’s test facilities confirmed that our receiver front-end could extend PCS uplink cell site range,” said Ora Smith, president and chief executive officer of Illinois Superconductor. “This could translate into a potential 20 percent to 30 percent reduction in the number of cell sites needed to provide complete coverage in uplink limited PCS service areas.”
Smith noted the range extension can reduce PCS operators’ infrastructure capital investment and increase speed-to-market. It was tested against the original equipment manufacturer equipment.
In addition, the company announced it received orders for its SpectrumMaster radio frequency filter equipment for cellular base stations. The filters will be used to retrofit two urban cell sites in the United States for an undisclosed cellular operator.
