NEW YORK-BellSouth Corp., Atlanta, reported it closed out 1996 with 3.6 million cellular customers in the United Sates, and increase of 765,000 compared with 1995.
In BellSouth’s 11 international cellular markets, customers nearly doubles for the year, reaching 1.2 million as of Dec. 31.
“WE’re in an industry that’s on fast-forward,” said Duane Ackerman, chief executive officer of BellSouth.
The company reported that fourth-quarter earnings per share were 64 cents, compared with a loss of 16 cents per share for the same quarter in 1995.
