Frankfurt, Germany-based Deutsche Telekom MobilNet GmbH (T-Mobil) bought 16 percent of personal communications services provider American Personal Communications’ share of its partnership in Sprint Spectrum; proceeds will be used to pay off APC’s license debt to the Federal Communications Commission.Deutsche Telekom also is allied with APC partner Sprint Corp.
Beside buying down debt, the deal with T-Mobil could help APC move forward with plans to provide an international venue to its PCS subscribers. “Not only is T-Mobil an established wireless operator in Germany, its joint venture arrangements in other countries give it access to markets serving 380 million customers,” commented APC Chief Executive Officer Scott Schelle in a written statement.
