REDMOND, Wash.-Metawave Communications Corp. is offering a new product for Code Division Multiple Access networks that can expand the coverage of cell sites.
The Metawave Echo CDMA Enhancer allows operators of personal communications services to increase system capacity and extend portable battery life.
The Echo system uses high gain, narrow-beam antennas that extend the coverage range of CDMA base stations by up to 50 percent, Metawave said.
The product therefore reduces the number of sites needed to deploy digital service, providing cost savings for the carrier.
The Echo’s reduced system noise floor can double cell site capacity, Metawave said. Portables can cut back their transmit power by as much as 75 percent, extending battery life and increasing airtime revenue for providers.
Metawave is a two-year-old company that designs and manufactures intelligent spectrum management systems based on advanced multibeam antenna technology.
Metawave also offers the SpotLight Multibeam Antenna platform for Advanced Mobile Phone Service, Digital AMPS, Time Division Multiple Access and Global System for Mobile communications standards.
