CUE NETWORK SYSTEM FACILITATES INTERNET CONNECTION TO THE TV

IRVINE, Calif.-Wireless messaging services as well as online capabilities are accessible via television, using Cue Network Corp.’s UniversalMessage system in conjunction with UniView, by Curtis Mathes Corp., announced Cue.

UniView allows a television set to be used as an Internet-link portal, which provides a variety of communications programming and program-blocking services, said Cue.

Incorporating Cue’s UniversalMessage system with UniView, the TV also can be used for e-mail, voice mail and paging, added Cue. Nationwide paging is provided on a caller pays basis.

“Internet TV will take the Internet into the home to those who are not computer literate. UniversalMessage will do the same for e-mail,” said Gordon Kaiser, chairman and chief executive officer of Cue.

Cue provides nationwide and regional messaging throughout North America using the FM subcarrier facilities of more than 500 radio stations. Cue said its network covers 95 percent of the population of the United States and Canada and carries 150,000 subscribers.

The Irvine, Calif., company also uses its network to distribute real-time differential global positioning system correction data and real-time route specific traffic information.

Applications for the GPS data service, called Accqpoint and RTK FM, include navigation, surveying and mapping.

Curtis Mathes, based in Dallas, manufactures and markets a number of electronic display products for consumer and industrial applications, specializing in 32- and 35-inch direct view and large screen projection televisions.
