CHARLOTTE, N.C.-The Wireless Messaging Group of Glenayre Technologies Inc. and Paging Network Inc., a wireless messaging company with 7.9 million subscribers, teamed up to install Motorola Inc.’s InFLEXion voice messaging system.
During tests in San Francisco, voice messages were sent through the public switched telephone network to a GL3000 Wireless Messaging Switch and transmitted to a GL3100 RF Director over a TCP/IP network. The RF Director sent messages to a transmitter site where a base station controller synchronized the signals and relayed them to the PageNet Tenor voice pagers via GL-T9501 Linear Transmitters. The pagers acknowledged receipt of the message.
“The successful voice transmission in a real-world system is a further confirmation of our technology and a key step toward the deployment of the commercial system,” said Don Gayton, Glenayre’s senior vice president of engineering.
