HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.-Ameritech Cellular Services introduced a customer-premise equipment system for wireless access to a private branch exchange system, said the company.
The system, Inside Connection, operates as a mini-cellular service within corporate campus or manufacturing environments. A user’s handset is mobile on-site and can act as a cellular telephone off-site as an Ameritech Cellular customer.
Ameritech said Inside Connection is compatible with a number of standard cellular telephone sets and Interim Standard 94 phones. The system supports more than 2,000 users and 480 simultaneous calls via 32 cell sites, each carrying 15 voice channels.
The company noted Inside Connection can be used as a disaster and recovery, or mobile-to-mobile back-up system. “When integrated with an uninterrupted power system, Inside Connection can help keep critical operations running,” commented Tim Appleyard, product manager for Ameritech Cellular & Paging.
Inside Connection operates using briefcase size transceiver units that are created on site, said Ameritech. The system’s spectrum capability allows for improved cellular reception at a more affordable rate than standard cellular service, said Ameritech.
Inside Connection can be integrated with current Key, PBX or Centrex systems using a digital emulation board, said Ameritech. The company said the digital system interfaces at a higher speed than analog and provides simultaneous ringing capability and trunking efficiencies. The equipment is manufactured by AstroNet.
