Alltel adds tracking to enterprise app lineup

As wireless continues to change how companies do business, Alltel Communications L.L.C. is now offering an application allowing employers to track mobile workers in real time.
The Alltel Workforce Locator service is a tracking and mobile resource management product designed by Autodesk Inc. The service is currently available on Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd.’s R430 and U520 and LG Electronic Co. Ltd.’s AX260 and AX300, with more devices to be added. The application is available for $15 per month and a one-time fee of $20 per line.
The application allows businesses to locate their workforce on Web-based maps. The solution also can direct employees to the correct job site and improve communication between office management and field workers, the companies said. Job updates also can be sent between personal computers and handsets via text messaging. The solution requires no hardware or software to deploy.
“This application is the latest in a series of product launches from Alltel that allows businesses to efficiently manage and communicate to their mobile workforce using Alltel mobile devices,” David Maddox, Alltel VP of product marketing, said in the news release.
