RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Nextel Communications Inc. has activated its digital specialized mobile radio service in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., market.
“It is always exciting to begin service in a new market, particularly in an area as important to our nationwide reach as the metropolitan area of Baltimore and Washington,” said Wayland R. Hicks, Nextel’s chief executive officer.
“Mobile work groups . . . can now access our unique services using a single handset that enables instant communication via digital dispatch as well as text messaging and mobile telephone service,” he added.
Billed as a provider of integrated wireless communications services to teams of mobile workers, Nextel said its service is now offered in a northeast region that extends from Alexandria, Va., to Hartford, Conn. and includes the metropolitan areas of Philadelphia and New York.
