DULLES, Va.-Comsat RSI said it has acquired a majority interest in Plexsys International Corp., which designs and manufactures cellular and wireless local loop systems in emerging countries. Details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Herndon, Va.-based Plexsys will continue as a separate company, but will operate under the managerial control of Comsat RSI’s wireless networks group and will trade as Comsat RSI Plexsys Wireless Systems, according to Comsat RSI.
The alliance with Comsat brings managerial and engineering resources to Plexsys, as well as additional marketing capabilities, noted John Argo, Plexsys president.
R. Doss McComas, Comsat RSI’s vice president, has been elected Plexsys’ chairman and chief executive officer.
“Plexsys’ full-featured, low-cost cellular and wireless technologies add another strategic component to our network systems product line by expanding our ability to supply total turnkey systems to cellular and wireless local loop providers,” said Comsat RSI President Richard Thomas.
Plexsys systems operate in 25 countries, including the United Stats, Canada, Latin America, the former Soviet Republics, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.
Comsat RSI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Comsat Corp. Comsat RSI designs, manufactures and integrates systems and components for cellular and other wireless applications.
