ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-TU-KA Tokyo and TU-KA Tokai of Japan have contracted Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Infrastructure Group to expand the operators’ year-old digital cellular networks.
Motorola said the expansions will increase system capacity by 33 percent for TU-KA Tokyo, operating in Tokyo’s metropolitan area, and double capacity for TU-KA Tokai, providing service in the nearby Tokai region including the city of Nagoya. Motorola said it values the combined contracts at $80 million.
Both operators’ digital PDC networks, based on Time Division Multiple Access technology, use Motorola SC 9600 base stations and NEC Corp. switches.
