With the lucrative fourth quarter just around the corner (almost), Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications has joined the chorus of vendors reminding the world that they too have innovative phones.
In SEMC’s case, it spilled the beans today that it will bring to market an 8.1 megapixel cameraphone in its Cyber-shot series. Last week’s iPhone announcement may well have pushed SEMC to extol the virtues of its coming product line.
The company said it would launch the C-905 in “selected markets” this fall. All three models of the HSDPA-equipped handset include 850 and 1900 MHz, so they can run in the United States.
The C-905 “looks, feels and acts like a real camera,” according to SEMC, thus the company may be looking to lure consumers considering carrying both a mobile handset and a separate digital camera.
The company did not announce markets or pricing for the C-905 or for its lower-end imaging device, called the S-302 Snapshot, which will offer a 2 megapixel camera. The C-905 package will include a Xenon flash, a 2 GB Memory Stick and an adaptor for transferring images to a PC.
