DUBLIN – After more than 10 years of research, Dublin’s Intune Networks is finally releasing its commercial line of products, Verisma, described by the company as “the world’s first carrier-class converged switch and transport solution based on optical burst switching.”
The Verisma line of products is built upon Intune’s optical packet switch and transport (OPST) technology, which has been proven to increase efficiency, operational simplicity and service delivery agility, or to achieve what’s been dubbed “liquid bandwidth.”
Liquid bandwidth is the term that describes a network operators’ ability to virtualize the network to provide packets of higher bandwidth based on network demand.
Built into the Verisma line of products is Intune’s operating system, which provides an application programming interface so operators can prepare the network for the applications and services of the future.
CEO Tim Fritzley described the product launch in a statement, saying:“Before today’s commercial launch we have focused on validating the technical capabilities of our technology and performing early trials with large operators. We are now moving into a new phase of commercialization as we prepare for multiple global first office applications in the second half of this year.
“So far the feedback from the market has confirmed our assertions and we have deep and broad engagement with the major players in the industry.”
Intune’s OPST technology has already established credibility as it has undergone intensive testing and deployment under the Irish Government’s Exemplar Network and as part of the MAINS project, led by Telefonica I+D’s research branch.
Telefonica’s MAINS project is run by a group of universities, companies, and research centers to develop new architectural solutions for next-generation networks required to absorb new traffic demands generated fixed and mobile broadband access technologies.
