TM Forum: Deutsche Telekom divulges secrets of becoming an agile service provider

DUBLIN – An auditorium full of executives and mobile entrepreneurs came to hear Deutsche Telekom’s secret to “Becoming an Agile Service Provider” in a keynote Monday at the TM Forum.

As the digital economy grows exponentially, the question of exactly how communications service providers can meet the demands of digital life becomes an increasingly important question in the business world.

Speaking on behalf of Deutsche Telekom, CTO Olivier Baujard and CIO Steffen Roehn addressed the forum’s attendees to answer the challenges.

Baujard explained the uncertainly of the future demands on the digital economy, stating, “Platforms need to be simplified and agile for new services, which we don’t even know what they will be yet.”

For Deutsche Telekom, the way to deal with this future uncertainly “requires harmonization across platforms, standardization, connectivity and IT,” according to Baujard. “We are convinced that by using the best possible standardized systems, and architecture, we will provide the best service.”

To do this, Deutsche Telekom will plan its approach to network and IT programs around four pillars: cost efficiency, fixed/mobile integration, reduced time to market, and enabled innovation.

From a business perspective, Deutsche Telekom plans to chase new business, operation and cooperation models, as well as addressing new marketing demands.

Both the CTO and CIO stressed the importance of flexibility and variety within the market as well as legacy network retirement, and OSS transformation.
