LOS ANGELES-Amp’d Mobile Inc., which began offering wireless plans and phones last week through its Web site, announced a string of collaborations with television producers who will provide original mobile content for Amp’d customers.
According to Amp’d, the concept development stage for the service has been going on for a year-and-a-half. The producers who will partner will Amp’d include Bunim Murray (producers of MTV’s “Real World,” “Road Rules” and “The Simple Life”) writer/producer Donick Cary (credits include head writer of “Late Night with David Letterman” and co-executive producer of “The Simpsons,”) QD3 Productions (Quincy Jones’ production company, to provide behind-the-scenes footage from hip-hop artists) and Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s LivePlanet production company.
The content is expected to include original mobile series, location-based mobile multiplayer games and exclusive video content for Amp’d subscribers. Amp’d also will make its broadcast studios, editing facilities and mobile broadcasting trucks available to original content partners.
“Amp’d has partnered with proven creators of reality and scripted television to create the largest offering of original content for the mobile entertainment space,” said Seth Cummings, senior vice president of wireless content and Internet services for Amp’d. “We believe original content will be a big selling point of our mobile entertainment service, and the wireless space in general.”
I-play offers game from iWin
San Mateo, Calif.-Digital Bridges Ltd.’s I-play service said it launched globally the mobile version of iWin’s online puzzle game, Mah Jong Quest. Mah Jong Quest is the second mobile title from the San Francisco-based online games publisher iWin that I-play has launched this year. The puzzle follows Jewel Quest, which as well as being one of this year’s best selling mobile puzzle games, was selected as Mobile Game of the Year for 2005 by Jamba/Jamster.
In Mah Jong Quest, players guide Kwazi through destroyed lands and ruined temples in this Chinese matching game with a mystical adventure story.
NetMotion reports 91-percent growth
SEATTLE-NetMotion Wireless, which provides mobile secure remote access, said that in the first nine months of this year, it added 183 new customers and that revenue for that period grew 91 percent compared to the same time period last year.
NetMotion’s new customers include the Jacksonville Electric Authority and Suncor Energy, bringing the number of companies using NetMotion’s Mobility XE software to more than 700. Earlier this year, NetMotion introduced two new versions of the program, which is designed to allow field employees quick and secure access to mobile applications and allow network administrators to control access to internal networks.
“More and more large enterprises are looking for a solution that can keep up with their mobile security needs, which evolve as they add applications and mobile workers to their deployments,” said Bob Hunsberger, CEO of NetMotion Wireless. “The first three quarters of 2005 have been a stellar period for us, and we anticipate continued growth throughout the rest of the year and in 2006.”
