VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Canada-Telus Corp. said it merged its wireless and wireline business groups into a single operating structure.
“The merger of Telus Mobility and Telus Communications is consistent with the advancement of Telus’ national growth strategy, focused on data and wireless, that we established five years ago,” said Darren Entwistle, company president and chief executive officer. “We have a significant opportunity to harness Telus’ broad capabilities to more effectively differentiate ourselves from our competitors. Telus is focused on providing applications that enhance the lifestyles of consumers and the competitiveness of business irrespective of the physical medium over which they are delivered. We are focused on being one team, united behind one strategy and defined by one brand.” Telus counts 4.3 million wireless subscribers and 4.7 million network access lines.
As a result of the merger, several employees were given new assignments. In addition, the carrier said it would not replace the top spot in its mobility unit. “Given that Telus will not be proceeding with a CEO of Telus Mobility as a result of the merger, I am currently in discussions with Wade Oosterman, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, about future opportunities related to Telus, ” said Entwistle. “Wade has been the architect of Telus’ leading brand and an invaluable leader in delivering the enormous success of Telus Mobility over the years.
