Tegic Communications plans to unveil a multi-modal user interface for smart phones this week that integrates Web browsing, messaging, search and location-based services.
The software developer is set to launch the T9 Mobile Suite 1.0, which employs the company’s predictive text software and is designed to allow users to easily switch between input modes. The software can automatically complete user-generated words in messages and URLs based on past usage, and can predict punctuation and phrases.
With the offering, a user can access applications with a voice command-for instance, the word “map” will present a user with a mapping application-then can get directions by saying an address into the handset.
Users also can check e-mails with voice commands and send text messages with a push-to-talk button. The product supports English, French, Spanish, German and Italian, and can support both key-based and handwritten entries.
Tegic, which is owned by America Online Inc., hopes the offering will drive wireless data revenues.
