SAN FRANCISCO-Wireless data package adoption among the top five U.S. service providers showed a 22-percent penetration rate for the first half of 2005, according to new research from Telephia.
The company said average package charges have increased 5 percent to $7.86 during the second quarter compared with $7.51 during the first quarter. The 18 to 34 age group represented the highest penetration rate at 45 percent, with those aged 25 to 36 showing a penetration rate of 32 percent.
“The fact that one-fifth of all mobile users are now paying nearly $8 per month to subscribe to data services proves that U.S. mobile operators are beginning to deliver compelling data service offerings and marketing them effectively,” said Sid Gorham, president of Telephia. “And with penetration twice as high among young mobile subscribers, we can see that this market has tremendous potential for future growth.”
