BOSTON-Personalization and “infotainment” offerings will fuel an explosion in the mobile-data industry during the next five years, according to a report from Strategy Analytics released Wednesday.
Wireless data in North America will grow from an $8 billion market this year to more than $30 billion in 2010, Strategy Analytics said, with personalization and infotainment providing 45 percent of non-voice revenues. Mobile-content sales are expected to nearly quadruple from $3.2 billion this year to $13 billion in 2009, with a year-over-year increase of 37.2 percent.
Carriers will help spur the growth as they deploy third-generation networks, tear down garden walls and offer bundled pricing options for data services, Strategy Analytics said.
“The North American download services market continues to exhibit strong growth with almost all of the carrier-led retail channels succeeding in increasing sales of download content and other value-added services,” said Philip Taylor, a senior analyst with Strategy Analytics.
