VelaTel Global Communications launches wireless broadband network in Peru

U.S.-based VelaTel Global Communications Inc. announced that VelaTel’s Go Movil wireless broadband access network went “live” today in eight Peruvian cities where it holds licenses. The network is being operated under the brand name Go Movil and provides 4G broadband Internet access reaching about 5 million people in the targeted cities, according to a company statement.

Previously named ChinaTel Group, VelaTel acquires spectrum assets through acquisition or joint venture relationships, and provides capital, engineering, architectural and construction services related to the buildout of wireless broadband telecommunications networks, which it then operates by offering services attractive to residential, enterprise and government subscribers.

According to VelaTel, Go Movil will offers its subscribers a variety of low-cost prepaid service plans and various devices for accessing the Internet in both fixed and mobile ways, which will be sold in company stores. Customers are also able to recharge their plans through a network of distributors in grocery and convenience stores, gas stations and other convenient locations.

Focused on emerging markets, Velatel remains committed to deliver high-speed Internet access to underserved markets around the globe, with the Peru launch serving as a major milestone in pursuit of this goal.
