Movistar Ecuador launches HSPA+ in Quito

After investing US$ 20 million to launch HSPA+ technology and begin to offer 4G services in Guayaquil, the largest and the most populous city in Ecuador, Movistar has announced deployment of HSPA+ network in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito, allowing its users to experience data connectivity at speeds of up to 10 megabits per second (Mbps) to download files and up to 2 Mbps to upload. Telefónica-owned Movistar said this launch is part of US $100 million investment that carrier in doing this year on innovation and deployment network.

Besides Quito and Guayaquil, other four cities count with HSPA+ network. They are Ambato, Cuenca, Manta, Santo Domingo and Machala.

Telefónica Movistar is offering its customers different plans. Its Internet 4G BAM Premium plan costs US $50 ( plus value added tax) and includes for free the new 4G modem (USB) and 3.5 gigabytes of data. Its 4G Smart Plan 105 includes the new Samsung Galaxy II for US $199 plus tax, and includes US $50 to speak, 500 text messages (SMS) and 3.5 GB Movistar navigation.

Movistar is also selling the Samsung 4G Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G for $842 spread over 18 months if the customers buys the Internet BAM 4G Premium plan.
