IBM Brazil said it has invested $22.85 million (R$40 million) to launch its first corporate public cloud in the country. According to José Luis Spagnuolo, cloud computing director at IBM Brazil, the investment is to prepare IBM’s data center, located in Hortolandia, for the new service, which requires a private cloud infrastructure to provide the technology as a service for corporate clients.
The new IBM SmartCloud Enterprise is designed to allow customers to be able to pay per hour for the service. It integrates a range of solutions, including business analytics, Web pages, social business, development and test environments.

With these services, IBM said it also intends to leverage its portfolio of outsourcing based on cloud computing.
The solution will be available under the model of infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (Paas), which offers a set of basic services pre-configured as virtual servers, data storage, operating systems and middleware from IBM and others.
Spagnuolo noted the IaaS model is a great alternative for smaller companies seeking market expansion.
