In Lima and Callao, the 899-915MHz and 944-960MHz bands will be auctioned. The 902-915MHz and 947-960MHz bands will also be auctioned to provide telecom services for the rest of the country. In these bands, providers will be able to offer mobile voice and data as well as other value-added services.
As ProInversión’s Jesus Eduardo Guillen Marroquin explained to RCR Wireless News, not all the country’s operators can participate in the auction because the three with the biggest presence already own 60 MHz, which is the limit set by the government for spectrum ownership.
Marroquin said there are no firm dates yet for a spectrum auction focused on LTE, but one could take place later this year or during the first half of 2013.
Convergencia Latina posted, citing ProInversión sources, that the base value for bidding on the four bands at 900 MHz is U.S. $ 39.8 million.
