Following its partnership with Chile’s Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Entel) to offer mobile services, the German software company SAP announced it has teamed up with the Colombian UNE EPM. The carrier will offer its corporate customers a cloud-based mobility platform to access enterprise applications and systems. Services also include mobile device and security management.

The regional director at SAP for SSSA (Spanish-speaking South America), Marcelo Giampietro, said in a statement that the agreement is very important for both sides, since both companies are focused on developing value deals based on technological innovation. “We hope to provide companies in Columbia that use SAP with best practices for their processes to mobilize and develop innovative business models on this new platform,” he said.
Marc P. Eichmann, president of UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones, said the partnership supports the carrier’s foray into the mobile world. UNE is focusing on providing a complete, integrated solution hosted in the cloud, in addition to its range of IT outsourcing services. “It also provides us a great advantage in the marketplace,” Eichmann said.
Last December, UNE partnered with compatriot firm Enlace Operativo and the Mexican company Kio Networks to develop a data center in Colombia. They invested U.S.$80 million to create a local company called Kio Colombia, which will be in charge of developing the data center in the city of Antioquia.
