Alcatel-Lucent named Ben Verwaayen to replace outgoing CEO Patricia Russo as head of the multinational infrastructure provider. Alcatel-Lucent announced Russo’s departure from the company about a month ago, during its second quarter results conference call.
During those results, Alcatel-Lucent made public that former chairman Serge Tchuruk would be leaving as well. Philippe Camus will come on as non-executive chairman, replacing Tchuruk. Alcatel-Lucent said both resignations were part of the company’s goal to obtain an aligned governance and management model going forward.
Verwaayen served as CEO of BT for the past six years and was the former vice-chairman of the management board of Lucent Technologies Inc. in the United States. His office will be in the company’s Paris headquarters. Verwaayen and Camus step into their new positions on October 1.
