It would appear that competition between telcos and cable companies is hotting up, with both industries trying to woo over customers with Wi-Fi. And indeed, wi not, because who doesn’t love Wi-Fi access?
The latest lucky masses to get a bit of a Wi-Fi boost are those up in New York City, with Comcast throwing in its lot with Cablevision and Time Warner to give subscribers more hotspots.
Anyone who subscribes to either of the three firms will now be able to use their login to get free access to all the group’s hotspots – Optimum, Time Warner or Xfinity – citywide.
“Whether in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park, areas of the Jersey Shore or in the Hamptons, high-speed Internet customers served by any of the companies can enjoy fast and free wireless Internet access on a full range of Wi-Fi-enabled devices, including the iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and laptop computer,” proclaims the press release. Let the furious fist pumping commence.
The three firms have deployed thousands of Wi-Fi access points across the market, and Cablevision’s John Bickham gushed in a press release that the team up would be “the first of many.”
Interesting.
