Brightpoint adds to domestic footprint

Supply chain logistics supplier Brightpoint Inc. (CELL) said it has added three new distribution centers to its arsenal, including two near its headquarters in the Indianapolis area and one in Reno, Nev.
The Indianapolis facilities comprise a 533,000 square foot facility and a separate 200,000 square foot facility, both in Plainfield, Ind. The Reno facility is a 264,000 square foot site that is under contract to be purchased and expected to be operational during the second quarter.
The growth does come at the expense of a current facility in Plainfield that will have its operations moved to larger Plainfield site and the Reno location. Overall, Brightpoint said the moves will result in a 700,000 square foot increase in its domestic operations.
Brigthpoint recently closed on its $80 million acquisition of Touchstone Wireless Repair and Logistics L.P. that included facilities in Bristol, Tenn., and Ft. Worth, Texas.
“The addition of these facilities will provide the infrastructure necessary to support our increasingly sophisticated services offering,” said Mark Howell, president of Brightpoint Americas in a statement. “We believe our stable and growing U.S. business model and current commercial real estate market conditions, combined with our ample liquidity and favorable interest rates, present opportunities to increase our existing capacity and provide value to both customers and investors.”
Brightpoint counts approximately 2,700 employees in its operations spread across more than 25 countries.
